A Mental Health Retreat in Texas for What You’re Still Carrying

Five days outside Austin, on twelve private acres, for the depression, anxiety, PTSD, burnout, or grief that medication and talk therapy haven’t moved. Everyone is medically screened before they come, and we’ll tell you honestly whether this is the right level of care for you.

Board-Certified Psychiatrists MAPS-Trained Guides Free Consultation Medical Screening Required

Most people who reach out have already done everything they were told to do, in the order they were told to do it. They’ve been diagnosed, often more than once. They’ve taken what was prescribed and worked with a therapist who was genuinely good at the job. Something eased for a while, and then the same weight came back.

Who a mental health retreat in Texas is for

What the people who come here have in common isn’t severity. It’s duration — the long stretch of doing the right things and arriving somewhere that still hurts. That is the shape of the problem a five-day retreat is built for.

The format is five days at AWKN Ranch, Sunday through Thursday, with four to six guests in the house at a time. Two guided ceremonial ketamine sessions are held by board-certified clinicians and MAPS-trained guides, two 1:1 integration coaching sessions sit alongside them, and integration work runs through the days in between. Around that sit yoga and breathwork, trauma-informed bodywork, IV vitamin therapy, contrast therapy in the sauna and cold plunge, vibroacoustic sound at night, home cooked meals, and twelve acres to walk. If it’s the days themselves you want to picture, our page on what a psychedelic retreat actually is, day by day walks through the arc.

Where you’ll stay

A house on twelve acres. Room to land.

Turn off the highway west of Austin and the road climbs into oak and cedar. The ranch is at the end of it, twenty minutes from downtown: a private or shared room, a dark sky, and a first night of sleep that tends to go deeper than anything you’ve had in months.

If you’ve been weighing an inpatient or residential program, the setting is the first thing that will feel different. This is a house and the team lives in it, with a concierge through your stay, meals cooked in the kitchen you eat in, a sauna and cold plunge outside, ceremonial space, and rooms set aside for integration.

What we treat
What a Mental Health Retreat Reaches

If standard care has not been enough, you are exactly who we built this for.

Treatment-Resistant Depression

For depression that has not responded to two or more antidepressants. Ketamine acts on the glutamate system, opening neuroplasticity that SSRIs cannot reach.

Anxiety

For chronic anxiety, panic, and rumination that talk therapy has helped you manage but not resolve. The retreat format gives the nervous system genuine downregulation.

PTSD & Trauma

For trauma that lives below the level of language. We work with MAPS-trained guides who understand how to hold the experience and the integration that follows.

Burnout

For high-functioning depletion that no vacation has touched. A nervous system reset for founders, physicians, caregivers, and anyone running on empty.

Grief

For grief that has settled in — complicated, prolonged, or simply too heavy to carry alone. The ceremony often opens what years of mourning could not move.

Addiction & Recovery

For people in recovery looking for the kind of deep work that supports long-term sobriety. We coordinate with your recovery team.

Level of care
Retreat vs. a Higher Level of Care

Different situations call for different levels of care. Here’s where five days at Within Center fits, and where something else will serve you better — including a wellness retreat with no diagnosis required, if what you want is rest.

When something else comes first

  • Active suicidality or psychiatric crisis — stabilization comes first, and retreat work follows once you’re steady. If today is that day, call or text 988.
  • Active psychosis, or bipolar disorder that is still being brought under control
  • Certain heart conditions, which the medical screening will surface
  • Substance use that still needs a medical detox; this work fits people who are already steady
  • A care plan that calls for ongoing inpatient psychiatric support
  • Screening is real. If we don’t think five days here will help you, we say so, and we try to name a better direction. The full FAQ has the medical criteria.

When a retreat fits

  • You’re stable and stuck — the crisis has passed and the pattern has stayed
  • Two or more antidepressants tried, and the relief kept running out
  • Talk therapy has given you the understanding, and you’re ready to work somewhere below language
  • You can be away five days, Sunday to Thursday
  • If you have a prescriber or therapist, we coordinate with them before and after
  • You want the medicine held ceremonially, with integration built around it

Frequently asked questions

Am I too unwell for a retreat?

Before anyone comes, our MAPS-trained nurse practitioner runs a medical screening, and it exists to answer exactly this question. It covers your medication list, your cardiac and psychiatric history, and how steady things are right now, and we coordinate with your prescribing physician where that helps. If you are in crisis today, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, before anything else.

What if I am currently on antidepressants?

Most clients are. Some medications interact with ketamine and may require tapering, dose adjustment, or short-term pause; we discuss this with you and your prescriber during medical clearance. Bring a full medication list to your consultation.

How does this compare to residential treatment or an IOP?

Those programs are built to hold you over time, with weeks or months of scheduled psychiatric care that your life gets arranged around while it lasts. This is five days, with two ceremonies and two integration coaching sessions inside them, and then you go home. Most people who come here keep their therapist and their prescriber throughout, and the retreat sits inside that ongoing care. If depression is the specific reason you are looking, the depression retreat page goes further into how the two fit together.

Will insurance cover this?

No. Ceremonial ketamine therapy is private pay everywhere in the United States right now, and a residential retreat is no exception. We can issue a superbill so you can pursue out-of-network reimbursement on the medical portions, and many guests apply HSA or FSA funds. Raise cost on your consultation call; it belongs in the same decision as level of care.
